Alessandra Baker grew up visiting her grandfather’s atelier, where he designed, patterned, and realized bespoke suits for a rather successful set of gentlemen. In a serendipitous turn of events, she found her first design position in the men’s neckwear department at Ralph Lauren.
While at RL, Alessandra grew more and more appreciative of the simplicity of a man’s wardrobe, the ease with which a man could dress himself, and instantly look put together. And that holds true for almost every occasion. Men have the luxury of dressing with enviable ease.
Having always wanted to turn her talents towards the women’s market, Alessandra made the impossible choice to return to school to receive a formal design education at Parsons the New School for Design. Upon completing her degree, she had found a niche in womenswear that had yet to be addressed.
Alessandra Mackenzie was born out of a desire to create luxurious loungewear for the modern woman, inspired by the ease of menswear. A collection of separates that combine to create a relaxed, elegant, and comfortable look, appropriate for both indoors and out.
