I love a good makeover. And I don’t just mean trying a new eye-shadow-and-lipstick combo. I love the idea that I can improve my surroundings or myself whenever I choose. Of course, I usually need a kick in the pajama pants to initiate that kind of change, and there is no better time to start than the beginning of a new year.
I’ve resolved to do the usual – work out more, make healthy choices (I just ordered a fancy blender), etcetera - but this year I’ve also decided to dedicate energy to the silly little things that make me happy.
This year, I will:
Try to be more like Audrey.
I have always been somewhat obsessed with Audrey Hepburn. I consider her to be the most elegant, charming woman who ever existed, and I think we could all benefit from channeling a bit of her grace and wit.
Paint my nails bright, happy colors.
I love a good crimson/black/navy as much as the next girl, but I get a kick out of bright red nails, especially on my toes. It conjures images of sunshine and summertime.
Get creative with friend time.
Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE going out to eat, but I live in New York City, and I rarely take advantage of all there is to do here. That changes this year. I also love making things - anything that requires sitting on the floor with scissors, tape, and magazine pages. Next up, handmade valentines.
Take one minute each day to be thankful.
It’s cheesy, I know, but I’m lucky in ways I take for granted all of the time, and I bet you are, too, so why not admit it?
Dance around my apartment.
I do this quite often, but could certainly do it more. There is nothing like a ridiculous solo dance session to Rihanna’s “We Found Love in a Hopeless Place,” to brighten your mood.
Reserve Sundays for lounging, reading, and making out.
In Alessandra Mackenzie, of course.
Wishing you a wonderful start to 2015!
